How is Tare different from MyFitnessPal, Cronometer, or Lose It?
Three things. First, Tare is a one-time $6.99 purchase — no subscriptions, no ads, no upsells. Second, your data stays on your device and in your own iCloud — we never see it, because we don't run servers that could. Third, Tare's Adaptive TDEE learns your real energy expenditure from your weight and food log over time, so your targets are personalized to your actual body, not a generic formula.

Is Tare free?
Tare is a one-time $6.99 purchase on the App Store. No subscriptions, no in-app purchases, no ads.
How do refunds work?
Refunds are handled by Apple as the App Store seller of record. You can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We don't process payments directly.
Does Tare collect my data?
No. Your nutrition data is stored locally on your device. If you enable iCloud sync, it goes to your iCloud account — we never have access to it. There are no analytics, no tracking, and no third-party SDKs.
How does iCloud sync work?
Tare uses Apple's CloudKit to sync data across your Apple devices via your iCloud account. Make sure iCloud is enabled for Tare in Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Apps Using iCloud. Your data stays in your iCloud — we can't see or access it.
I deleted the app — is my data gone?
If you had iCloud sync enabled, your data persists in iCloud. Reinstall Tare and it will sync back. If iCloud wasn't enabled, the data is gone when the app is deleted.
Can I export my data?
Yes. Go to Profile → Export Data to export your food logs and supplement logs as CSV files. You can also sync with Apple Health, which writes your calories, protein, carbs, fat, fiber, and water intake to the Health app. Your data is stored in your iCloud account in standard formats, so you're never locked in.
What if I want to switch off iOS in the future?
Your data exports as CSV files at any time from Profile → Export Data. The export covers food logs, weight, water, supplements, fasting sessions, daily check-ins, and goals. You're never trapped.
Features
Where does the food data come from?
Food search results come from the USDA FoodData Central database. Barcode lookups use Open Food Facts. No personal data is sent with these requests — only the search term or barcode number.
Can I create my own foods?
Yes. If a food isn't in the database, you can create a custom food with your own nutrition values. Custom foods are saved locally and sync via iCloud.
How do recipes work?
You can build recipes from any foods in the database. Add ingredients with amounts, optionally set a cooked weight, and Tare calculates per-gram nutrition values. Then log portions by weight.
Can I track supplements?
Yes. Add supplements in the Profile tab with dose info and assign them to timing groups (like Morning, Pre-workout, Night). You can set daily reminders for each timing group so you never miss a dose.
Does Tare sync with Apple Health?
Yes. Tare can read weight entries from Apple Health and write your nutrition data back — calories, protein, carbs, fat, fiber, and water. You can toggle health sync and weight sync independently in the Profile tab. All Health data is handled by iOS and never sent to us.
Does Tare work offline?
Yes. Food search requires an internet connection to query the USDA database, but logging, viewing, and editing your data all work offline. Previously searched foods are cached locally.
Setup & Compatibility
Why iOS only? Will there be an Android version?
Tare is built natively in SwiftUI with deep integration into iOS features like SwiftData, CloudKit, WidgetKit, and Apple Health. There are no plans for an Android version — going native lets the app feel right and keeps it small enough for one developer to maintain. Your data exports as CSV, so you're never locked in.
What units does Tare support?
Tare supports both metric and imperial units. You can switch in the Profile tab. Internally, all calculations use grams for accuracy.
