Privacy Policy
Short version: we don't collect your data. Tare is a local-first app. Your nutrition information stays on your device and, if you choose, in your iCloud account.
What we collect
Nothing.
Tare has no user accounts, no analytics, no tracking pixels, no crash reporting SDKs, and no advertising frameworks. We don't know who you are, what you eat, or how often you use the app.
Your rights under GDPR, CCPA, and similar laws
Because Tare collects no personal data, there's nothing for us to access, export, correct, or delete. Your data exists only on your devices and in your own iCloud account. If you want to remove it, delete the app from each device and remove its data from iCloud in iOS Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Storage.
iCloud sync
If you have iCloud enabled for Tare, your data syncs across your Apple devices via Apple's CloudKit. This data goes to your iCloud account — we have no access to it.
You can disable iCloud sync for Tare at any time in your device settings. Your data will remain on the device where it was created.
Apple's iCloud privacy policy applies to data stored in your iCloud account.
Apple Health
Tare can optionally read from and write to Apple Health (HealthKit). This requires your explicit permission. Health data is handled entirely by iOS and never sent to us or any third party.
You can revoke Health access at any time in Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → Tare.
Crash reports
If you opt in to share diagnostics with Apple in iOS Settings, Apple may forward anonymised crash reports to us through App Store Connect. These contain technical information like stack traces and device model — never your nutrition data, name, or anything that identifies you.
Analytics
None. We don't use any analytics services. No Google Analytics, no Mixpanel, no Firebase, no App Store analytics beyond what Apple provides by default (which is anonymized and not tied to individuals).
Third-party services
Tare connects to two external APIs for food data:
USDA FoodData Central
When you search for a food, Tare sends the search term to the USDA API. No personal information is included — just the food name you typed.
Open Food Facts
When you scan a barcode, Tare sends the barcode number to Open Food Facts. Only the barcode is sent — no personal data, no device info, no location.
Both services are queried only when you initiate a search or scan. Results are cached locally to minimize network requests.
